Political correctness, cultural diversity, acceptance/tolerance.Who came up with this whacked up stuff?

I'm sick & tired of political correctness, acceptance crowds & hearing how everything is just SOO racist! ANYBODY ELSE W/ ME??? If we don't translate every sign for a foreigner.. then we are not Culturally Diverse enough! If I don't agree with the "alternative lifestyle" I'm a homophobic biggot, racist,

If I say don't agree with someones views I'm too narrow minded..

"I need to have a tolerant open mind" blah blah blah

What happened to America?! Where everyone was themselves, everyone was still REAL not fake, Where most had the same stance when it came to moral issues? Everyone spoke English as a 1st language or took time to learn it? Kids grew up in a normal family setting?

This is America we speak English, drive too fast, talk too slow, love & protect our kids. We have our own culture & morals here. America don't like it feel free to leave!

Who sat around & thought up all this stuff & then incorporated it into what was once NORMAL country?

Anybody feel this way?

Update:

BTW.. Guess I was being too harsh. I tend to come across too nasty :(. I'm not saying people can not live their lives the ways they see fit for themselves. Just don't force unnatural lifestyles or views upon people. to make them law.

A lot of this dumb and pervers stuff sprung up becuas our morals have declined. And our moral have declined becuase America is unfortunately getting away from the true and living God. The prince of peace, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the alpha & omega, the beggining and the end, the I Am I Am, the God of Issac,Jacob, and Abraham, Jesus Christ!! As we unfortunately move away from God;so also do our morals.

To give one example: like it wasn't that long ago, in the early 1990's and anytime before then, people would still call Homosexuals *******. Becuase then they still pretty much honored that God does not like, does not accept homosexuals. If my memory serves me right, sins the mid 90's when two femal celebrities kissed on stage, everything has just went down hill as far as honoring God and honoring our morals that God said in his word (The Bible) that we should live by.

So yes there's some stupid thing that people do these days that most definetly would have been frowned upon and look down at just as little as 12-15 or so years ago. And believing God's word is true, it's still just only going to get worse. What people dont seem to understand is that yes we have freedom, but our freedom is supose to be in God.

If someone does not accept diversity, then that person is not qualified to hold any job working with the public or have co workers or a supervisor.

This was said above. Sounds like you are discriminating against conservative people like me. Are you saying if I don't think it is ok to be a sodomite, a witch, a drunk or something else that I should not have a job? Most conservative Christian people don't like any of those things but won't treat someone horrible for it. I will NOT tell you it is ok to have a "alternate lifestyle" but I won't ignore you and treat you bad either.

I think everyone is just to sensitive. If someone does not believe like you do than that is fine. What difference does it make if someone doesn't agree with you. Why are we so easily offended in this country?

Another thing that was said is "This country was founded on diversity" and that is BOLOGNA! It was founded on Christianity. It was founded using a good old fashioned 1611 KJV Bible. It was founded on a book that said it is not ok to be a sodomite or have some religious view that was wicked and wrong. It was founded on a book that expects people to be moral inside AND outside their homes.

I think many of you are being to hard on the person that wrote this question. They have the right to believe the way they do and if you don't like it then fine. Just move on to something else to read.

These are terms derived by ethical relativists who believe that there is no right nor wrong. All speech has to be opinion-neutral -that's why there are "alternative lifestyles". This type of politically correct language is genertated by people committing unnatural / immoral behavior and therefore they try to put a happy spin on it. It's all in the label. The say pro-choice people don't call pro-life people pro-life any more - they're "anti-choice". Who want's to be anti-choice in a free country. It is a very slick method to name anti-social, unnatural, immoral type behaviors with positive sounding names as it some how takes the "wrongness" out of it. But beware, it's not just radical leftists that do it. What about the Patriot Act - I mean what person wants to be unpatriotic and be against the Patriot Act. Run that scoundrel out of the contry.

As for the tolerance, I don't necessarily believe in tolerating everything that people do. We don't tolerate murder or theft or rape. Why should we beforced to tolerate things that are repulsive to society and even sometimes detrimental to society.

Well, I don't like political correctness to the point that it's governed by popular trend and the correct phrase is a constantly moving target. I mean you can insult someone and not realize it because you didn't know what the latest version people want to call something.

The rest of your views are pretty much crap. I'm down with diversity and acceptance. It's just the constant renaming that gets on my nerves.

For example: People who once lived in the country of Mexico but have now come to America, what do they want to be called?

    Mexicans

    Mexican -Americans

    Hispanics

    Latinos

    Chicanos

    Immigrants

    Emigrants

    Illegals

    Citizenship Seekers

    Vatos

    etc

    etc

    etc

Just tell us what it is this week, or better yet, pick one and stick to it.

Like it or not we live in a diverse country with equal rights guaranteed to all. If someone does not accept diversity, then that person is not qualified to hold any job working with the public or have co workers or a supervisor. So unless you want to spend your life working for yourself doing something that doesn't in any way involve anybody else, and I can't imagine a way to do that, get used to it!

BTW your so-called normal country is a myth that never really existed except in the minds of delusional people like you.

I am guessing you are white, educated in this country, probably

haven't been out of this country, don't know anyone who

is actively discriminated against and don't listen to the news

from anywhere BUT this country (probably FOX).

"Politically Correct" was a sound bite created to be able

to bash out at the entire concept of racial/gender/anything-else

    sensitivity.

I don't believe being sensitive to another person's problems

is a bad thing, and I am apalled that you do.

Grouping all of the sensitivities all together makes it far

easier to bash because you stop seeing the faces and

    problems that are being faced.

So - if you start breaking down what most people mean by

"Political Correctness" into its component parts, it becomes

    mighty hard to argue with.

Do you wish to start making fun of the handicapped?

Do you wish to call people from a particular country by

an insulting slur that over-generalizes something about them?

Do you wish to make over-generalizations about people you

    have never met?

If this is America (and by the way, Yahoo isn't just an

American phenomenon), then it includes all of the cultures

that we have conglomerated over the last 500 years.

That YOU aren't constantly immersed in them says more

about you than about the concept of cultural sensitivity.

The term "Politically correct" originally was said "Ironically"

about people who tended to apply rules of conduct rather

than to try to really be sensitive to whomever they were

    talking about.

However, the opposite of "Politically Correct" is quickly

turning into "America for Americans" - the joke has overstayed

    its welcome.

I have always noticed that the "politically correct" folks like to rub our noses in it..

Could it be that it's an "I'm better than you" thing ?

Being PC takes no thought, and is almost always self-righteous. It's a lazy mans' (not "persons" or "individuals"... I figure you can understand that I mean everyone without being PC) way of propping up his own sad ego.

If you're so desperate to have other people approve of you that you'll jump on the PC wagon and give up free thought, you don't impress me.

Politically correct started as an annoyance and advanced to massive law suits that have changed the very laws of the country that is the USA.

Source(s): The minority rules what type of Government is that?
  • Most likely it was made up by someone from both parties wanting to grab votes from the poor and lazy groups of America

You seem to consider several entirely different behaviors/concepts to be the same, just because they share some superficial similarities.

Political correctness is a movement that overcompensates for past prejudice and bigotry by assuming everyone is so fragile that thinking badly about them will cause them to crumble.

Political correctness is one of the worst possible things for true cultural understanding. It assumes that people are fragile and victims, and requires everyone to walk on eggshells not to hurt someone else's feelings. I was raised in a culture where people spoke the truth, and people's feelings were up to them. We respected other people enough to allow them to choose what to feel, and granted them credit for being able to accept differing opinions.

Political correctness treats adults as children, unable to handle criticism or disagreement, as massive overcompensation for years of racial bigotry and hatred.

The problem is, political correctness doesn't solve that problem, and has nothing to do with eliminating prejudice or promoting tolerance.

Tolerance of other cultures and acceptance of differences means not hating people because they're not like you. Diversity means allowing differences, without needing to force everyone to change to suit your way of thinking/acting. Tolerance doesn't mean you have to approve of what other people are doing, and it doesn't mean you have to hide your feelings.

It just means you can't go around attacking people, or taking away their rights, just because you don't like them. This has nothing to do with political correctness or choosing an alternative lifestyle. It's basic humanity and civility. It's being willing to allow someone else to do what you don't like, when you're not being harmed by it. What do you care what someone else does in the privacy of the own home? What do you care what paperwork someone else has filled out?

You don't have to like homosexuality to acknowledge that it has nothing to do with you. You don't have to approve other religions to be willing to tolerate someone else's right to practice them.

This country was founded on the concepts of diversity, and on allowing differences even if we don't like them. Nothing says you have to approve. But basic humanity and civility expect tolerance of differences. You can't just attack people, physically or politically, because you don't like them.

BTW, that concept of diversity and tolerance of differences is one of the core values of America, and what this country was founded upon. It was in the Declaration of Independence, and appears multiple places in our Constitution. Nothing says you have to like people who are different than you. But the laws say you do have to tolerate those differences.

If you don't like that, then you are welcome to leave.
