When do garden tomatoes ripen?

I planted a tomato plant about a month ago, in June. A lot of tomatoes are hanging off the vine, but green... very big though. A week ago, a few started turning yellow... and that's where they stayed.

I couldn't stand it anymore so I picked the deepest yellows... and was surprised to find out that they taste exactly like red tomatoes?! Do you think they're really ripe? I thought I bought a red-tomato plant... Do you think I should pick them when they're a deep yellow? I'm so confused...

The variety of tomato you bought must have been a yellow tomato. So, deep yellow would be ripe. They should be a little less acidic than red.

You have a yellow tomato plant, like a yellow beefsteak, not a red. These are good, just a bit sweeter than the pink or red.

It took an prolonged time for my tomatoes to ripen additionally through climate. truly, they are nonetheless attempting to ripen. they want sunshine, warmth and water. go away them on the vine and wait. they're going to proceed to ripen precise as much as October. they are plenty greater flavorful ripening on the vine than a windowsill. I on no account placed mine on a windowsill. The kitchen counter works merely nice if mandatory. and not in any respect placed them interior the refrigerator. In October I %. each and all of the tomatoes off the vines alongside with the eco-friendly ones. I place them in low covers of cardboard bins and take a seat them in my front-room. As they ripen i pass "%. out" one or 2 for our dinner. each and every so often I make fried eco-friendly tomatoes. Yum yum. None of them pass to waste. If I truly have too many, I supply to pals or friends.

See if they turn any redder on the vine. If not, pick them and see if they turn red on your counter. ...If not, then you bought yellow tomatoes. Or, maybe it could be something funny with your soil?
