Why wont my presciption drug plan cover a script for Byetta for my type II diabetes?

    It depends on the coverage, it might just require a prior auth. from the insurance company. Inquire at pharmacy, or check out alternatives. Chances are there are other oral medications that are cheaper and as effective.

    My Doc is going to start me on Byetta in a couple of months. When discussing the drug she told me that some docs have been writing if off license in non diabetics as a weight loss drug. This has resulted in shortages and some problems with insurance. Try calling and working with your insurance if you have a previous diagnosis and meet the protocol for Byettas use in type II you might be able to get coverage. My Doc was able to work it out with my insurance(a HMO), maybe yours will be able to also.

    Someplans require you to be taking glucophage along with the Byetta. So if that is not also prescribed, they may not cover the Byetta.
