Can someone help me choose the right microphone?
I am a choir director who is forced to have performances in a gymnasium. The gym is wired for sound, but my current microphones are unidirectional and require you to be right on top of it to be heard. Does anyone have any suggestions for a mike that will pick up a choir in a gym?

Well, your best bet is to find a local pro audio store. They'll probably be able to send out a guy who can examine your setup and advise you.
If you're looking for yer standard everyday wired vocal microphones, the Shure SM58 is incredibly popular and does a good job, although the Audix OM3 would be better for your purposes.
Otherwise, Crown and Audio-Technica both have a good range of microphones that should work for you. Both companies make a range of "choir microphones," which are designed to hang from overhead.
As another answerer said, look for mikes that pick up in a cardioid pattern.

SM58 $a hundred, Behringer XM8500 $20, the Nady SP-5 $20. they do no longer comprise a cable. there is one even much less funds, the Nady SP-4C, this is $10, has a swap and springs with a cable. The cable is incredibly worth $10. purchase the three low-priced mikes, you need to use the cable from the SP-4C !!! do no longer forget approximately the colourful sponge covers, each mike desires them.
