"I am unable to see half the stuff on some of the websites i visit." This line in your question suggests that you are not talking about your home page from your website. This must have something to do with the default color of your browser.

    For Internet Explorer:

Tools => Internet Options... => General Tab => Colors... button

=> Check the "Use windows colors" check box, click OK.

    For FireFox:

Tools => Options... => Content => Colors... button

Now make sure that "Allow pages to choose their own...." check box is checked.

For other browsers the process is almost the same.

search your HTML color for the tag BGCOLOR and you will see it there. If you set it to all zero's it will display as white
