my wife wants to put a tag under my dogs skin for identification is this safe...?

I microchip loads of animals every week. I have only ever had 1 dog cry about being done that was a small terrier mix. My own dogs are all done even my 8 pound one and he didnt mind too much. I do kittens from 8 weeks of age here and have never had a cat cry out either. I think a microchip will cause your dog a lot less pain than the confussion of a night in a shelter. As for are humans next? Why dont we all have someone in our lives that we wish we could lose? ;)

Yes, it's safe. It's general practice now for animals which are valuable to have electronic tags (meaning microchips) implanted below the skin. It's fairly painless and would cause him no discomfort. The idea is that if your dog should get loose, or is stolen, that there would be a way to identify him at pet shops or at the local kennels that is not visible and which can be lost or removed easily.

It's a good idea. No, I don't think humans are next, although there actually have been people which have had this done.

Yes,Yes, Yes, Please microchip your dog if you love them. Too many times your best friend gets lost and many of the humane societies and vets have a scanner which can pick up your dogs ID number. This is what happens, a needle is inserted under the dogs skin on the top line (back) where a grain of rice size implant is deposited. A scanner is run over your dogs back to pick up a registration number. You send in your registration number (please when you move let them know of your new address)

it's easy. Anyone can steal your dog, and take off the collar. They can't take out a chip. It's safe, doesn't hurt, and humane. I should know, both my sister Lacey and I are micro chipped. It sounds like you are talking about a microchip and yes it is safe. Its about the size of a piece of rice and is usually implanted between the dogs' shoulder blades.

If your dog was ever lost, the procedure at most vet's and animal shelters is to first scan the dog to see if there is a chip. Your name could then be traced via the number that comes up on the scanner.

It's called a microchip and it's the best thing you could do. The dog tags that attach to the collar are barely ok. But if your dog gets loose and it's collar falls off...no tags. A micro chip is very small, and cannot get lost. As far as I understand, it's painless and it is humane to have them injected in your dog. Your vet can do this.

Collars can be lost or removed. A tag such as your wife describes is actually a good idea, if your dog goes missing. A good vet can insert it with little if any discomfort, similar to what a human might experience with ear piercings.

I think this is a wonderful idea. It is a nearly painless procedure, and works just by waving a scanner over the dog's neck. I had this done to my beagles, because they would run away, their collars would break, or someone would take them off, and I always had a way to prove that that was MY dog.

Getting the microchip for your beloved pet is one of the nicest things you can possibly do. I just read recently in Newsweek about a universal scanner that can read all microchip scanners in the U.S. which will aid the A.S.P.C.A. in finding owners of lost pets. The microchip would help if the dog was ever stolen to identify and prove your ownership.

yes an identification tags are good to locate lost dogs. yes humans are next. it will happen in the raputure days when we are to make a chose to serve the devil or to serve God. we eather take the chip and be condem in hell or we don't and live for God. i hope this helps

most states require that identification microchips are inserted into dogs and cats but it doesnt hurt them, however, if your wife is doing it herself when your dog already has one, it may not be safe- consult a vet beforehand....
