Where is a good place to live in LA?

That's a BIG question. There are a lot of nice places to live, but it depends on how much you're willing to pay.
The "West Side" is the most expensive because the weather is better, and you're closer to the beaches, culture and nightlife (and probably your job!) This is includes places like Santa Monica, parts of Hollywood, Westwood, Brentwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Century City and all the beach communities.
The "Valley Side" is cheaper, and has some very nice areas, but it's hotter, and further from all the mentioned above. Nice towns there are Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake,Valley Village, Burbank, parts of North Hollywood, Encino, parts of Northridge.

I like the Los Feliz area if you want to live in Los Angeles itself is a really nice area, or Miracle Mile, West Hollywood is a lot of fun if you can afford it. Orange County is nice but it's a horrible disaster to drive from if you are working in Los Angeles. You really should plan on how long you want to sit in traffic. I worked 12 miles from my house and took me over an hour some days.

There are a lot of good places all over L.A. ---It costs a lot less than Manhatten--but is not cheap....I guess the key would be where are you going to work...You can get a temporary apartment until you get oriented to the place...and you will never run out of fun things to do..
