The answer is both. He is young but he'll learn pretty fast in just about anything to do with computer games, and gadget for that matter.

So if this is the case, then maybe considering which one is cheaper might be more feasible.

  • the SP is a much more simpler form of gaming than the DS because it is much more comlicated the SP cause of is touch screen and dual screens. Plus there is a styles with the DS too so he might lose it or misplace it. Then he might abuse the DS by scrathching the screen with the styles in a couple weeks. The SP is cheaper anda more usable gaming system than the DS plus u can also watch T.V. episodes of like spongbob or pokemon or a lot more other things. I go with the SP

I'd start him on the SP. A DS might be a bit too sensitive for a 4 yr old. He could loose the stylus, scratch up the screens within a month.

  • I'd go with the SP while the DS is pretty cool it geared more toward older children. The touch screen and stylus are pretty delicate and you wouldn't want him to accidentally break them.

id go with the sp because the ds touch screen is easily damaged and might be too hard for a small child to use

A DS. I have a three year old that plays on mine. He plays animal crossing. it teaches them responsibility (they have to water flowers and pull weeds) and friendship (townsfolk to talk to). He loves it and he's learning to read what the people say.
