NO white socks! the socks should be generally darker than the trousers (and, if, as in good taste, the shoes are darker than the trousers, the socks should be lighter than the shoes).

If possible, yes, trousers, socks, and shoes, should be shades of the same color, or at least matching colors, with graduation in that order, and shoes the darkest.

Men have 3 color choices for shoes: black, brown, and cimarron (a wine color). They have few choices for suits or slacks: black, gray, tan, brown, navy. The shoes need to match the pants as closely as possible, and stay in the same color family: blacks and grays and blues are cool, browns, tans, cimarron are warm. Therefore, you want the socks to match as closely as possible to both the shoe and the pant, with the shoes being the darkest color.

You cannot go wrong with black, brown and navy socks.

And people can see them when you sit down. If the pants are hemmed to the correct length, the pants will be about one-two inches above the ankle when sitting.

White socks are a BIG NO-NO.

If you are wearing trousers then noone should be able to see your socks So you can wear any colour you like. However if it was a formal occasion I would wear a dark colour which went with my shoes.

When wearing shoes, stay away from white sox! They belong with sneakers and sports clothes, not with suits!

The sox should be black or navy, a dark colour anyway. And yes, they should match the whole ensemble.

you can, at a place i worked, the uniform was black slacks, and black socks....to that degree, it worked fine, but the option, was white socks and blue pants....so it depends on what color preference you are seeking.

I've also known, that a more colorful approach will make you vibrant, as noticed, my wife will wear neon pink socks, with a pair of white shoes, and dark blue pants.....people will notice her feet before anything else, and it's a great way to make the person or persons you're working with notice you....and harder to forget.

    Black socks are the rule.

If not, they should either be pink or red, matching some other item.

No creepy beige or grey shades, ridiculous cartoon stuff...

Either - 2 out of the three should match - usually the two that are closest together: shoes and sox or sox and pants.

None of the above! But could match with something in his attire such as tie, shirt, trouser, jacket, etc.

i think a man can't go wrong with black socks for smart and white socks for sports.

Beige socks look the worst and white socks with a black suit arghhhh
