    x=y+25

    x+y=105

    x-y=25

    x+y=105

    2x =130

    x=130/2

    x=65

    65=y+25

    y=65-25

    y=40

    she's 65 and son is 40

    You know, it's not much help when people do this for you, but the thing to remember is write down what you know.

    Call Rita's age "X", her son's age "Y". Now, write down what you know. She was 35 when her son was born, so HIS age, Y, is 25 less than hers. So,

    Y= X - 25

    You know that their ages add up to 105, so,

    X + Y = 105.

    Now, you know, from the first equation, that Y = X -25, so, in the second equation, you can replace the "Y" with "(X - 25)", right?

    So, the second eqation becomes

    X + X - 25 = 105

    Now, add 25 to each side to get rid of that " - 25" thing and

    X + X = 130, or 2X = 130

    Divie both sides by 2

    X = 65

    X - 25 = 40

    Rita is x; son is y

    x=25+y (Rita is 25 years older than the son)

    x+y = 105 Today their ages add up to 105)

    Elimination means that the x and y terms should be on the left and the numbers on the right, so...

    x-y=25

    x+y=105

    The y's are opposite in sign so if you add the two equations together, they drop out (eliminate) and you get

    2x = 130

    Divide both sides by 2

    x=65 so Rita is 65

    y=40 because Rita is 25 years older than her son

    Let x be the son's current age.

    => Rita's current age = 25 +x

    According to question,

    rita's current age + son's current age =105

    => (25 + x) + x = 105

    or 25 + 2x = 105

    or 2x = 80

    => x=40

    So the age of Son = 40 years, Rita's age = 105.

    Enjoy!!!

    let the son's present age be X and

    hence the present age of mom according to the condition given the Mom's age is X+25

    therefore the equation becomes X+X+25= 105

    Hence 2X = 105-25

    2X= 80

    x=40

    Hence Rita is X+25 that is 40 + 25 = 65

    and the son is 40

    i didn't solve it completly but im close to solving it.so for i have this:

    let r = rita s= son

    r+s=105

    r+25=s>>>> r+r+25=105

    r2-25 -25

    r2=80

    r= 40

    thats as far as i got so far i'll keep trying and let you of any answers i get
