How often do you compliment a stranger?

So, I am looking at how cruel the world is today. It hurts my feelings. I compimented a young lady on her beauty and she rolled her eyes at me as if I were trying to hit on her. I love it when a stranger compliments me, it makes my smile grow wider.

Update:

For the bitter and depressed, I still think you are beautiful (even if nobody else does)

I don't think there was anything wrong with you complimenting her, or other strangers! And I'm complimenting you just for complimenting others!! the world could use more nice people like yourself

I also like being complimented--by anyone--but I never compliment a stranger unless it's something that really strikes my attention. I don't pay much attention to strangers, and I can only remember two instances in the past six or so months when I have complimented someone I didn't know. Oddly, both were in the grocery store. There was this girl with bright, bright blue eyes and long, straight black hair and this smooth white skin, and I said I liked her hair. Turns out, she was naturally a blonde, but she looked nordic or something. She was really nice and didn't take it as a lesbian thing or whatever. I think it made her feel good. The other person was this cashier with a strong, very charming british accent. I complimented her, and then later, a group of people at my office got into this conversation about the cashier; they all knew her and were saying how funny and nice she is. On a whim, next time I was at the grocery, I told her that lots of people I work with were saying they love shopping there b/c she's so nice. I don't know if she believed me, but really, they'd been going on and on about her, so I felt obligated to tell her.

Well I followed this lady around the grocery store and must have told her I liked her dress three times and she called security and I was kicked out of the store.

So I only ever give one compliment.

I try to compliment at least two people per day. Smile and the world smiles back!!

Well, I am careful; being female, I compliment other

ladies on their clothing, shoes, nails whatever I think is

pretty or nice, but I learned in job training to say it only

"once" or it can be "misinterpreted."

Well no wonder she rolled her eyes you're not supposed to talk to strangers lol it's viewed as weird and you don't know who they are (and vice versa). Weren't you ever taught that?

I don't compliment strangers precisely for that reason- they might think that I am hitting on them.
