My motherboard has 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets for ram, it supports pc2700, can I put faster ram in it?

Motherboard is a MSI 645 Ultra P4 board

I can get a better price on a 1gb pc3200 ram chip.

So even though it won't increase performance can I put it in, instead of the pc2700 it's designed for?

most are backward compatable meaning yes

they just run at the max supported so 3200 will run at 2700 speed.

thats how socket a boards work anyway.

it might work and it might not, if it does work the memory will clock down to PC-2700. if price is a issue i would check out www.buymemory.com i think the PC-3200 and the PC-2700 are the same in price
