    The geometric interpretation of the derivative is the slope of a tangent line to a graph at any chosen point.

    The algebraic interpretation is the instantaneous rate of change of the function or formula at any chosen value of the independent variable.

    There are many interprations. Two common interprations are slope(or gradient) and rate of change. There is however another definition which is called an average sum. You can look this up on google. This is the best definition I have seen. It is self-referential which makes it a little harder to understand though.
