Why would ice from an icemaker smell like pepper...?

The ice tastes fine, it just smells like pepper - why would this be?

you've got a mineral buildup in your water. the smell is the minerals that are being gathered up in the machinery of the icemaker. since they cannot be frozen like water, they have an odor.

I don't have an ice maker. Are you sure that it could not be a smell from something else in the main freezer section--put some arm "N hammer baking soda in your freezer--you know open the box and just put it in there to make it smell fresher. Oh and if your freezer looks grimy, then, wash it out well.

Maybe you should call a store like Sears that sells those and ask them. They should be able to tell you the possibilities.

Is it old? Have our fridge checked out, maybe the freon, if all is ok, put a box of baking soda in the freezer, make sure everything has been cleaned in hot sudsy water and rinsed.
