Ty Cobb,He sharpened His spikes and nailed other players with them. He also called a Detroit groundskeeper a N**ger and pointed a gun at His head. Ty was messed up because He saw His stepmother shoot His Father to death(He cought Her messing with another Man)/

Without a doubt, Ty Cobb.
"Cobb has the highest career batting average in baseball history. When he retired after the 1928 season, he held 90 major league records. But his skill as a hitter is almost overshadowed by his reputation as the fiercest competitor ever, a reputation he encouraged. He would ceremoniously pick out a prominent location in the dugout and start sharpening his spikes in full view of suddenly nervous opposing infielders."
"In 1912 Cobb was the unwitting catalyst to baseball's first strike. In a May 15 game against the Highlanders, Cobb's ears were burning from the continuous insults of a fan sitting behind the dugout. When Cobb could take no more, he charged into the stands and beat the fan senseless. Cobb was immediately suspended."
"In 1936, despite an enduring reputation as the meanest player in the game, Cobb became the leading vote-getter among the first to be elected into the brand-new Hall of Fame."

Ty Cobb. He used to do all kinds of despicable things, he once threw some dirt in the first baseman's eyes then took a big lead so the pitcher would throw over, of course the 1b couldn't see it and he got hit in the nose & broke it. Also, sharpened spikes, punched guys in the "jimmies" when sliding, and purposely overswung to hit the catcher in his follow through.
BTW - What's the "TV" source on Ted Williams? He was always great to the fans and only hated the media and sponsors. Just curious.
Source(s): Read it in a book about 10 years ago, don't remember the name. - Bob DLv 61 decade ago
Never saw Ty Cobb play but historians all say he was downright mean. Billy Martin and Pete Rose played a tough game as well. Dirty? Not the last 2 I mentioned, tough but not dirty. Gotta go with Cobb.

Arguably.. Ty Cobb was the nastiest player ever.. And good at marketing fear.. Sharpening your spikes in full view of the opposing infielders prior to the game.. He was the first intimidator.. Other players that played hard, tough, in your face baseball include Pete Rose and Lenny Dykstra

derek jeter.
Did any of you actually see Ty Cobb play ball? I doubt it. All you have to go by is stories of people who were jealous of his great ability to play the game.
Ty Cobb was NOT as dirty as people think he was.
