Two thoughts on this:
1. Thank your lucky stars ants are not 5 times the size they are right now!
2. I have noticed with ants that they are not dirty or unclean, in fact, quite the opposite. They come marching into your kitchen like an orderly regiment and set to work cleaning up any crumbs or spillage in record time and then, poof, they withdraw ranks and go back into the wall or the floor or wherever they have colonised.
In all seriousness though, if you really don't like them hanging about, the best thing to do is call in the pest control!

I had an ant problem also a few months ago..I got some stuff called Terro..It is a liquid you just pour a little out on the counter or sink or where ever..the ants eat it and take it back to the nest and it kills them. It really works. You can get it at a co op or I think Walmart has it too..It only cost like five or six dollars.

Call an exterminator. Different treatments are required for different types of ants. Some treatments can spread the problem or make it worse.
A professional can identify the insect and design a treatment strategy that will be effective and safe for you and your family. After all safety should come first.
In the long run, you will save time and money by doing it right the first time.

Try to fid their anthill and spread it liberally with diamataceous earth and boric acid powder. They will walk through this and carry it back to the nest. Boric acid is a poison and diamatacrous earth is made of very fine very sharp silica. The silica will penetrate thier ecoskeletons and they will die. The boric acid will get the ones that missed walking in the silica. If you can't find the hill sprread it around the house up close to the wall. I eleimated three huge ant colonies with this method this summer. You may have to reapply after a rain. Both produts should be available at a hardware store or garden center.

If you can see the trail of ants going into the house, then you can detour the trail by spreading a line of comet or ajax type cleaners, if there is far too many ants, maybe encircle your house with comet. Lots of times ants will go into a house while looking for a water source. Try to keep the yard watered for a couple of days and see if that helps.

Go to your local hardware store and buy "Taro" brand ant killer stuff; An exterminator once told me that its basically the same stuff they use. You just put some of the stuff on a square of cardboard (away from where kids or animals will get into it) somewhere around where the ants are hanging inside and wait for them to dissapear! Its always worked.

Everyone here has ant problems in the summer. We use ant baits. Those seem to get things under control.

I had this problem once & it really is creepy. I called a professional exterminator. Lo & behold, I had a huge ant nest. Call a professional right away, there is nothing you can do, trust me.
