What does it mean to 'fight in the way of Allah'?
Does the Muslim understanding of this principle have anything at all in common with the following verses from the Bible?
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (to be continued)
(continuation) Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Muslims belive in both the physical and spiritual aspect of the above. Since God's word is ultimate. Jihad is not what is understood by the west.
If you are really sincere to find out for your self, here is a very small but concise reading.

To my brother who said Allah his the name of "The pagan God", rest assure that we belive in the same God that Jesus worshiped and that's who we worship. So we should really be care of speaking of what we know not.
If you are interested, you can read what an ex-priest of Christianity who converted to Islam has to say about Allah.

No. The muslim principle has nothing to do with this explanation that you give here.
In my opinion, the muslim principles of killing are a crime towards mankind and should not be taken lightly. Their killing to acquire property, women, and power are not ethical as others have rights too.
They have to be punished severely for murder, torture, theft and rape.
The muslim atrocity should not be taken lightly or should not go unpunished or there will be severe consequences in the world.
Nature has a way we do not understand and those who will discount these atrocities will live to suffer very painful lives.
Once you know the crimes of these people, should it be forgotten? Are we not to get up and do something about it? It is not political games or dishonesty. This is the time to be true to humanity. If ignored, it will hurt the future of all concerned
Is this the legacy we should leave our children?\
And this comment is only related to your above question and explanation. It does not endorse the bible in the same context.

I don't think our mortal minds could ever understand this: I'm not Muslim, but I can definitely see how coincides with my own spiritual beliefs: We are heading into the dark ages, but not one created by man. The dark forces of the universe are heading our way and with the bright light of faith, will we be able to survive the flaming arrows: in the year 2011 will come the biggest solar flare shower in human history, threatening to wipe out the worlds power, thus darkness and, worse, lives.
Unfortunately, current wars could be using the Bible's words as an misinterpretation, or using it to their own advantage (radicals).

I think some Muslims believe jihad is spiritual warfare & battle against self sin. Because it doesn't go against their conscience. Because it agrees with the christian spiritual warfare.
I believe that at the Great White Throne Judgment, God is going to take into consideration how a person obeyed their conscience & God's natural laws.
But Islamic religious books make it an actual sword that slaughter the infidel or unbeliever who oppresses them.
What oppresses them? What causes them to riot? What causes them to call for the assasination of someone? Where does the call to jihad come from?
Just read or watch the world news. Right now they say Israel is oppressing them. They prophesied the destruction of Israel first & attacked Israel first.

The pagan God called Allah, which is the ancient name for the god of the moon, has absolutely no relation to the one true God of Abraham. Fighting in the way of Allah means to kill anyone who isn't a muslim.

To understand Muslim ideas, it helps to study the five sacred duties. (the pillars of faith)
1. professing faith
2. prayer
3. alms giving
4. fasting
5. pilgrimage
It's rather unsavory to take a concept out of a faith without proper contextual information. There are extremists in every faith - and those who choose to fight/die for that faith. Those numbers are very slim.
