Why do some professional golfers smoke cigars while in tournaments?
Can you name another professional sport where this is acceptable? Doesn't smoking a cigar during a televised golf tournament contradict sports in general?

Because at this point in time smoking a cigar or a cigarette is not illegal. The golf course is probably one of the few places one can have a smoke without being abused about it. If it is OK for baseballers to chew tobacco for thier nicotine fix I suppose a few puffs on the course shouldn't be an issue.....

Cigar smoking is as royal a pastime as is golf. The cigar does not
continue as a cigarette, it goes off and has to be lit once in a way.
The cigar is also a company, as is the thumb sucking by infants. Always at your side, personal, portable, and convinient. It also is
a tool to release tension built up by the game, and also while reflecting on the daily business/personal happenings.Only golf gives the player absolute peaceful time for himself.
The other spot may be chess, but not at tournament levels.
Smoking does contradict sports in TV ads.
