Can anyone tell me how to resize scanned photos so i can put them on a webpage like bebo?

Most photo editing programs will have a resize function- look at the requirements from size at bebo and chose the "resize" command in the photo editing program and set the size to those dimensions or less... (say 600 x 800 pixels for example...)

there are 2 factors affecting the size of an image

one is the number of pixels of the image (eg 1024x768, 800x 600)

the other is the amount compressionthat is used to stor ehte image - this is know as the 'quality' setting effectively the quality threshold tells the image processing software how many pixels to sample, so the imnagfe may store 1 pixels' worth of information averaged accross (say a 3x3 matrix, 4x4 and so on)

you can adjust this using a suitable image procressign software, and that depedns on what you have. Personaly I use Fireworks,

tio reslove your problem try to find what size image bebo permits, and ajust any / all images accordingly

depending on the software you have you can resize an image (either by scaling it (not to be reccomended) or by cropping the image (ie reducing the actual size [as if ytou take a parir of scissors to the photo)

after doing that then alter the quality, if the image is only going to be seen on screen then it doesn't matter too much how significantly you reduce the quality without significant loss of detail in the pitcture. each time you compresss the image youy loose detail, it cann ot be recovered.

a word of caution you can never ever reqain inforamtion discarded by reducing the quality threshold, so always work on copies of the original image.

if you do want to print an image you can get reasonable print quality (nothing like a 'proper' photo) if you roughly scale the image by 1/3rd as printers tend to print at around 3..6 times the resoluiton of monitors (72dpi)

On the photo editor I use, (can't remember it's name, but it came as standard on my Piece of Cr*p), click "Image", and then there is a "resize" option I think you will find that 300 on the long side works well for web pages.

Download Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 (this is free to download). You can then resize or edit your photos. You can also keep them in categories and watch them as a slide show if you wish.

I use paint to resize all my stuff go to tools - stretch & skew - and then you get two boxes, put in the exact same number in each box, i.e 50 and 50 then hit enter... If you dont like that size just go to edit - undo.

I think Corel X3 photo package, has a built in photo optimiser, it re-sizes photo's especially for the web, shrinking mb's e.g a 10mb picture can be optimised to 500kb also the photo doesn't loose any quality and its easy to use
