Do you believe the cosmos is limited?

From childhood I believe there is no border in universe.

And when I grew up, the scientists say that the universe is limited in size. But still I don't understand. If that is true, what is outside the universe?

Do you believe the cosmos is limited?

No, I believe that the cosmos is unlimited. Probably most people do. One of the most current terms to describe the infinite cosmos is the multiverse.

Earlier terms to describe the expanse included the universe, which includes all space, energy, and matter in our realm. Now many scientists believe in many balloon-like universes floating through the expanse of the multiverse. This is why many scientists speak about our universe being limited and the matter and energy in it finite. While it is thought to be expanding, like a balloon being puffed into (actually the universe is more properly the surface of the balloon), it will probably also deflate and shrink down to a very compressed ball someday. Thus scientists speak of an expanding yet limited universe.

To nonscientists, space is everything inside the balloon and outside of the balloon. Therefore, we would consider space infinite – going on forever in every direction. To scientists, though, the spacetime fabric is generally thought to be endless (or seamless) yet limited (or finite in its ability to expand).

You can see how easily it is for even scientists with common beliefs to use ambiguous and confusing terms when speaking of the cosmos. Also some scientists have differing views about the great out there. For example, in Scientific American (March 2005), the opinion is expressed that “the totality of space could be infinite. Shrink an infinite space by an arbitrary amount, and it is still infinite.”

By definition, the universe is everything there ever was, is now, or ever will be. That pretty much goes along with your childhood belief. In order for the univese to have a border there would have to be some "thing" or "place" beyond that border, and there's absolutely no evidence whatsoever that such is the case. I like the analogy of the surface of a perfect sphere (you have to disregard everything but that surface). The surface of a sphere has no border or end.

It is limited to us as far as our explorations are limited by our technology. Since the theories about the origin of the universe always are changing, the answer to your question will also change with each new theory. As for the outside of the universe -- your guess as good as any.. we haven't seen yet all we have here, let alone outside of our own universe.

True the universe has a limit. It is 156 billion light years across as far as were stars and galaxies and other stuff is. (And GROWING) But space has no limit. The universe can expand forever and never fill up space.

well, no one knows, but theoretically speaking, since universe is made up of different types of matter, and hence laws of physics only apply where even matter exist, no ones knows what's "outside" and it can not be proven because you can not simple travel in a straight line and end up outside of the universe (doesn't matter how fast you go), it is believed that the edge of our universe's space (assuming the expanding universe theory), is warpped. Sorta like you are trapped in a ball, you can go where ever you want but you will end up in circles...

I think the universe is unlimited. Otherwise, what is outside the universe?

I suppose that logic... based on knowledge, tells us that everything must have an end/edge but it's the lack of knowledge that we don't have that tells us we have much to learn!
