does anybody buy a service manual (like chiltons etc.)anymore?

whenever i buy another car the first thing i do is go to the auto parts store and buy a service manual.it pays for itself the first time you use it,

    hell ya i buy 1 for each car i dont want to pay $100 per hr to someone for something i can do myself im not good with electrical , but at least chiltons gives you a good way to go on the simple stuff besides i wont use a computer to get what i need from the internet id never get the grease and oil off the keyboard

    Usually depends. If I have a Ford, I don't generally buy a manual as I pretty much know the timing marks and most that can go wrong. I bought a manual for my Subaru last year and now that I now the basics and given that Subarus are all pretty much the same, I won't need to buy another unless I own one with a DOHC to lock the cam damper. Now that the internet is well established it is also much easier to get information online.
