so i have an idea to improve this website. how about awarding negative points (-3) for the lamest answer, too?

if a person knows that their childish, self-serving, knee-jerk reactions can catch up to them and actually cost them 'level points', maybe a disincentive like of that magnitude that begins to weed out some of the more reckless replies. what say you?

Oh get over yourself. You are not the most important person on the web. Learn to laugh and learn to deal with the BS.

    I say huzzah.

It would cut down on the number of people who go into the religion category to argue for evolution, or the people who go into the gay/lesbian category to tell gay/lesbian people that God disapproves of their life.

Next, could we institute a rating system for the question itself? If less than 20% of raters approve of the question it costs an extra 5 points, and if more than 75% approve it costs none!?

I think that would keep the fun around (nobody reports an answer that's actually funny), while sucking out a little of the venom.

What are about negative points (beyond the normal 10) for lame questions?

Childish, self-serving, knee-jerk answers keeps this site fun.

I say its a bad idea because there are a number of answers that would get crushed bacause the answers statement could be right on the money, but the questioner's political views might be bad. Sometimes its best to leave things be.

In theory good idea, in reality you would have people just doing that if someone didnt agree with them, it would get out of hand.
