Hi everyone. I have a coin that I need some help with?

It is a small hobby of mine.

On the front of the coin there is a man sitting holding a small flag. There are 13 stars around him.

On the back it says United States of America. There is a wreath and in the middle of the wreath it say one dime.

The date on this coin is 1857.

Can anyone tell me if this coin is worth anything and does the 13 stars on this coin mean states?

Thank all of you for your answers and have a great day. .

Hi. I am a coin dealer in the Midwest. What you have there is an 1857 Seated Liberty Dime. These were struck between 1837 and 1891 at various mint facilities. If you look on the reverse side of the coin below the wreath, you may see either a small "O" (for New Orleans), or nothing at all (meaning it was struck at Philadelphia). Those 2 mints were the only ones producing dimes that year. Retail value on your piece will range from roughly $12-15 and up depending on its exact condition.

The 13 stars, by the way, represent the 13 original colonies, and the figure on the front is a seated female representation of Liberty, holding a staff with a "Liberty cap" at the top. Thus the name "Seated Liberty Dime".

Hope this info helped you out.

    1857 Dime in very-good is worth $17.50

The 13 stars do stand for th original 13 states.

The mintmark would be located within or below the wreath if it's blank it is from Philadelphia if you see a "O" then it is New Orleans and worth exactly the same. in lower grades.

That is Lady Liberty on the front.

i do think that the 13 stars meant states, i think during that time when the coin was created there was only 13 states, the coin u have is more than a century old now, so yes it's worth something

I know the 13 stars represent the original 13 states, but im not sure about the rest
