Have you ever heard the old saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink"? Same thing applies with any animal including dogs......Just make sure you provide plenty of clean water for him. As for milk....Esbillac is puppy milk replacement......it's expensive but worth it if the pup is that young. You can soak his kibble in just a little bit of it each feeding. That should help him maintain weight as well as fluids. Once he's about 8 weeks old you can soak his kibble in some warm water until his teeth can sufficiently break up the kibble. Don't fall into the trap that canned food would be better. It's NOT. Find a good non corn based puppy formula kibble and soak it for him. It's healthier for him and his teeth.

If you are asking about the 5 week old puppy that you were asking about before. Why isn't it's mother still feeding it milk? It is essential to his growth and development, and if this is not possible you need to be feeding him a supplemental puppy formula found only in pet stores ( do not feed him baby formula, dog's are lactose intolerant! ). His little body and digestive system really isn't ready for other things yet. I am a breeder and there are pups that will drink water out of the mom's bowl, but they are too little to force this on them yet. As fa as the cost it can get pretty expensive, between $10-40 per can and I suggest to spend the extra money and get the powder, because after you open the premixed liquid, it is only good for a short time.

It actually sounds as though the pup should not have left his mom so soon. You can try feeding the dog milk (cow's milk should be ok) by way of an eye dropper. When he's full he'll stop drinking from the dropper, but you should still take the pup to the vet. They will got you alot of education on how to care for your puppy.

The dog milk is not that expensive and if you go to your local vet they may even donate a carton or two just so you don't drop it off with them to take care of. You also need the puppy bottle. He's not accustom to laping milk yet.
Please take care of this puppy as you are determining the quality of his future Right Now! He needs nutrients at that tender age!
Good Luck!

Well i wouldnt worry to much but if your worried then if you have dog snacks put one in his or her water bowl and they might try to get it if not put an ice in the water when he or she sees it float the puppy will try to get it thats what i do with my dogs.

have you tried getting your finger wet & then letting him lick it off of your finger. that worked when my puppy wouldnt drink. but make sure he doesnt get water up his nose. it will make him sick. he should take it of your finger because it looks like where his moms milk comes from.

put flavoring in it. and always make sure his water is cold. in the summer it can get hot and he may not like that

how do you know he's thirsty?his instincts will tell him how much he needs.in case he might be sick and you are really concerned take him to a vet.

i think they make flavoring for the dogswater, and try putting ice cubes in it
