I think the concept of "best" band is pretty subjective cos there are way too many great bands out there... progressive or not.
Since you like Dream Theater, you might wanna check out some of their influences and peers, Rush, Genesis, Yes, Dixie Dregs, Spock's Beard... even classical music!
Soon you'll discover what I mean, no such thing as best, just different, but all enjoyable!

Dream Theater is fine but I'm gonna have to go with RUSH. Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer following by a nose wisker. The Ozric Tentacles are nice space rock.

Of course it's Dream Theater! Hands down. The musical talent of Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci have yet to see any equal. Their side projects are all terrific too!
