Hooray for airport security. Better to get to your destination late than not at all. Who agrees?

I work at Heathrow (though not today, PHEW!) I think that despite the conspiracy theories I've read here today, It is better that these steps are taken than to be complacent about the whole issue.

I know BAA and airline staff are going to be getting so much sh*t from passengers who ,fair enough are frustrated, are more concerned about getting a few extra hours on the beach.

I flew Pan Am from LHR to JFK about 2 weeks after the Lockerbie bomb. The level of security was amazing. Firstly I had to prove that I had valid reason for entering the terminal building. Secondly there was the now familiar security questioning at check in. Thirdly there was the air side security check that has been in place for about 30 years, Finally there was a rub down and scan with a very sensitive metal detector (which found a staple in a pocket) immediately before boarding the aircraft. However, checks 1, 3 and 4 were conducted by Asians. I often wonder how well they were checked before being employed.

Don't let them yank your chain, Jeff. This is another exercise in control by the control freaks who run the gov't, just like taking off your shoes.

Notice how few details of the alleged "terrorist plot" we been given. Only very vague info, so far. Unnamed "terrorists" were arrested in the unnamed suburbs of London, who represented an unnamed organization plotting to use unspecified liquids to blow up unspecified flights to the USA (how do they know that?) on unspecified dates. But we've got more than enough details about the reaction/solution. About the "islamic fascists" (new phrase) who "hate freedom". Even the president himself says that this confirms that the USA is under threat and that you, Jeff, should be very, very afraid. It really seems to me that all of this has been staged to keep everyone afraid, controlled, and reacting instead of thinking. It also plays right into the new theme of "homegrown" terrorists. They did manage to get that detail in about the alleged "plot".

Absolutely, I have been thinking this for years! I think we should all be limited to one small see through case each - for ever.

Speaking as a very nervous passenger, who only packs HALF a tube of toothpaste, being fully aware that it makes all the difference to the weight of the plane for landing!!!

I am travelling to USA in September and I was dreading that, goodness knows how I am gonna cope now!

At border crossings I have been given caught with many meat products and different nutrition products which i could no longer carry back from Mexico even however i offered each and every thing interior the U.S. previous to going into Mexico. i might have circled and located a needy family individuals to grant the nutrition to, however the border human beings certain me that it would all take delivery of to needy Mexican persons. At airports maximum edibles are trashed. different hardware and family individuals products are given to charities. i substitute right into somewhat miffed while they confiscated my scissors at a bus depot - my fault, i did no longer comprehend they had began that kind of close protection for commute on a bus. it extremely is considered to be un-patriotic to ***** and that i did no longer prefer to decelerate the protection line. on the different hand, they grabbed my scissors, yet I someway controlled to stroll in the process the x-ray device and steel detectors with a Swiss military Knife in my pocket (i might thoroughly forgotten approximately it). So, the protection exams are nonetheless bogus and ineffective, and that's a undertaking.

yes i agree. I just hope that in a few weeks time when this initial scare has blown over the security doesnt get lax again as i have a friend going to the states

ABSOLUTELY...people are gonna complain, but if given the option of riding plane A that adheres to the strict security guidelines and plane B where you don't have wait in long security lines and you can bring liquids- most would opt to ride plane A.

I agree, but it should be the same for every one, it's not fair that they chek you up depending on your looks, who knows, maybe the next crazy people that wants to blow a plane may be irish or german, but the only people that airport security check are the ones who looks from middle east or even latin

I agree- people who complain about being delayed for a bit should think themselves lucky that they were not on the 9/11 planes

Agreed but my experience is that they are pretty selective on who they check out thoroughly. Last time I traveled, went right thru security and watched as they practically undressed an elderly lady using a cane.
