How sorry is our police department(not a joke)?

10am- man arrested DUI-handcuffed,in back of police car-

1015am- man gets out of police car, still in handcuffs-runs down street

345pm-police break in cable system asking for public help finding drunk in handcuffs on foot

945pm-still at large

This is not a joke, we are in a town of 30,000-not big, but what does it say to the citizens when they have to place a front page add stating: police need help finding a drunk, on foot, in handcuffs? Would you feel safe with this police department? He is 44 years old so he's not a young buck any more either!

Update:

We had 4 officers on duty, they were all there and no other calls. They were all standing there talking at the time he left the car.

I hate to admit this, but 2 officers here on my department had a female prisoner cuffed and in the back seat, and somehow she got into the front seat, got the car in gear and stole the squad car, running it into another squad on scene. Everybody has a bad day, but those guys had a BAD day. I think the Cheif's BP is still over the moon. The media was all over it too. On every major network that night.

Cops are as human as any of us, and can make mistakes or lack judgement from time to time. Why would you expect them to be superhuman and not screw up?

It is possible that the officer was distracted, whether from an accident, a citizen needing help, or otherwise. Then the suspect would have simply kicked out the window and made off. It happens.

Why you would make this a reflection on your entire police service, and not accept it as an isolated incident, I'm not sure.

Does that mean we can call your whole family "sorry" the next time you mess up?

    Cut the guys some slack.

They sound horrible! Next time something bad happens to you do not call the police. Somebody steels your car or threatens your life, just take care of it yourself. Good luck.
