The site below has hyperlinked versions of each party's 2004 platform. The Party platform outlines the basic beliefs of the parties on a variety of issues. It's not an exact descriptions, as some Republicans and Democrats disagree with some parts of their platforms, but it comes close enough to a general consensus. Also, since the platforms are written by the parties themselves, you don't have to worry about a negative bias affecting the description.
