Large Engine?

My Question has to do with large engine design. I am aware that violent reactions take place when Oxygen and hydrocarbons combine. It doesn't seem that anything is being done to capatilize on this. I was a liquid oxygen handler a long time ago, we had a 50 gallon container leak on asphalt and cause a crater. The energy release/explosion started from a few drops of liquid.

It seems that a very large piston, some crude oil and some Oxygen injected would create some awesome energy for a small amount of fuel, not to mention,pretty cheaply.

    efficiency is required for anything to be practical ( as for your idea it would work better with dynamite ) OK to be serious your ? shows creativity but it just flat won't work we already do the equivalent with gaseous oxygen that is how a turbo or supercharger works( by increasing the amount of oxygen in the combustion chamber) ( to prove this to yourself you might want to research the amount of energy required to make liquid oxygen)

    Already been done - it's called a diesel engine: out a little oil on top of a large piston, add a little oxygen, squeeze it into ignition - and bingo, explosion and lots of power.

    As you just mentioned liquid oxygen is tricky to handle and dangerous. Also how much for a gallon of oxygen? It is easier to get it from the air.
