Creative Zen Vision:M--charging?

I've been thinking of getting one of these, but couldn't believe they stopped including an AC adapter. I already have drawers full of adapters for various gadgets--might one of these work, and how would I know (other than the plug fitting, are there power specs or something?)

Also, I know the AC adapter charges much faster than via USB. Does the quick charge have any impact on battery life? I think I remember reading once that quick charges shorten battery life (not the charge, the overall life of the battery).

The ZVM I bought from BestBuy in June 2006 did have an AC power adapter in the kit.

Now I see the fine print on Amazon's page:

Note: As of July 2006 Creative no longer ships the Zen M with the AC power adapter.

Ugh. That is a pain. Maybe you can find some old packaging at BestBuy, Circuit City, or some other retailer that still has the AC power adapter in the package. (Look on the side of the box before purchase).

I do charge mine off my USB from my laptop when I'm at work.

As for using another power adapter. I would be hesitant to recommend one that was not specific for the device. You'd definitely want to match voltage and amperage. To high a voltage could fry your ZVM.

I don't know if a generic USB AC power adapter would work or not but I suspect it would because it would have to comply with the voltage and current specifications for USB devices.

I don't know about the effect of quick charging versus slow charging lithium ion batteries. However, you might read through the Battery University web site to find an answer:

In particular, there's this page on charging lithium ion batteries:
