Hungry for knowledge and how to apply it My Yahoo! Answers philosphy: Give a person a fish they eat for a day Teach a person to fish they eat for a lifetime

  • Hey skateboarders! What's the trick for propelling yourself without pushing off the ground?

My 12yo son just got a long board skateboard. He'd like to figure out how to propel himself forward on the board by pivoting or rocking back and forth rather than pushing on the ground. Unfortunately, I never learned this maneuver myself.

Can anyone tell me if there's a special name for this way of moving forward?

Can you point at (tell me a URL) for a good web page or video that teaches this technique?

    Thanks!

  • What is the name of this song with the chorus "whine for me"?

The chorus of the song goes something like:

    Won't you whine for me

    Whine for me

    Won't you whine for me

    Whine for me

Could be classified as R&B, soul, maybe hip-hop. Any ideas?

  • What is the name of the PBS Nova program about a macaque monkey from Japan?

This PBS Nova was from the late 1980's or early 1990's. It was about a female macaque monkey living in a Japanese national park. I remember that she was somewhat crippled. The program showed the monkeys warming themselves in the thermal pools in the park.

I believe that the program title contained the name of that the park workers had given to the macaque.

Does anyone remember this program and the name of the program? Thanks.

  • What is that "techno(?)" song with the lyrics "dance floor dance floor"?

I was riding the ski lifts at Northstar at Tahoe this morning and the guys in the Burton tent were broadcasting a song that had rather repetitive lyrics "dance floor, dance floor, dance floor". It was a male voice and somewhat techno in form.

I did searches on Yahoo! and Google. Yahoo! gave more more variety.

Google kept telling me it was Zapp and Roger's "Dance Floor" (NO IT IS NOT). So please don't tell me to "google it". Truth be told, google is not always the best source of answers.

It is not All Saints "Flashback" . It is not Good Charlotte's "Dance Floor Anthem".

I have auditioned the songs on Yahoo! Music and YouTube video links that showed up in Yahoo! Search and these songs are definitely not it.

I know how to search and use the lyrics sites and none of them is providing the answer to this song that is tickling my brain.

So, I'm hoping someone who thinks they've heard the song I'm talking about will answer.

  • What is the name of the song in the Propel fitness water commercial?

In the commercial, there's a woman walking a long the streets and sidewalks who gets eyed over by Tay Diggs, John Stamos, and a few other well known people.

It sounds to me like it might be Destiny's Child. My wife would like to know.

    Thanks.

  • Where can I get a "I reject you reality t-shirt" WITH the Adam Savage "face" on it?

I was just watching Mythbusters on TiVo and saw that Adam Savage was wearing an "I reject your reality and substitute my own" t-shirt.

However, this one was different than all of the rest that I've seen.

    1) It had the "welded text" look.

    2) It had an iconic or graphic image of Adam Savage's face in profile.

Of the t-shirts I've seen, most don't have the "welded text" look though some of the ones at CafePress.com do.

But what I really want is the one JUST LIKE the one Adam was wearing with his profile picture on it.

Does anyone one know "for sure" where to get one just like it?

    Thanks!

  • What female artist or band did this cover of a "Cameo" song?

I was watching TV (maybe CSI or some other show of that ilk) and heard a female singer covering an old Cameo song. Possibly "Word Up" or "She's Strange".

Please respond only if you have a possible answer of song and artist. Brownie points to someone who can name the show too.

    Thanks!

P.S. Don't bother typing in "I don't know" responses kids.

  • Are you a saucy person, or do you prefer a good rub?

When it comes to your ribs, that is.

Do you prefer to slather your pork ribs with sauce or do you prefer dry rub?

What brands or recipes for either?

  • Indian "pop song" recommendations wanted?

I'm just an American who really likes some of the songs by Indian artists on the "Bend it Like Beckham" soundtrack.

In particular I'm looking for recommendations of songs, particularly legal downloads, similar to the songs:

    Jind Mahi by Malkit Singh

Punjabiyan Di Shaan by Hans Raj Hans

    Darshan by B21

Tere Bin Nahin Lagda by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

    Noorie by Bally Sagoo

Similar sound tracks or playlists or just your personal favorites like these would be great! Thanks!

  • Can a monkey typing randomly have any chance of randomly typing Hamlet?

We've all heard about the proverbial monkey or monkeys typing Shakespeare. But what are the chances that it could really happen, given the age of the universe?

A Yahoo Search will get you an answer on this in one shot. But the real challenge is thinking about the problem.

  • Where can I find more about the animal called a "nauga"?

I have a nauga-hide couch and it's rather comfy. My two year-old runs around the house chanting "nauga nauga". (Swear that this is the truth).

So, I was wondering, where does the nauga live? What does it look like? What are it's habits? Any links or references to pictures or other information would be greatly appreciated.

I feel rather foolish not knowing.

  • Can I donate Yahoo! Answer points?

I know I can donate my airline miles to charities. Can I donate my answer points to charities too?

In particular, I'd like to donate my points to the people addicted to Yahoo! Answsers. Maybe if they just got free points donated from people like myself and others, they wouldn't spend so much time with Yahoo Answers. The really desparate ones seem to be dredging up old questions with only one answer so that they can score an easy 2 - 13 points.

I'm a recovering Yahoo Answers addict myself and try to keep my point gathering below 300 points a week now.

If I could just donate some of my points to those folks, maybe they wouldn't get work so hard to get their 10-20,000 points in a week. Maybe it would help them with their affliction.

Or is this just foolish thinking on my part.

  • What does iPod *REALLY* mean?

In "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", people are replaced by mindless, sheepish, extraterrestrial "pods". A giant pod (like a pea pod) would be layed down next to a human and it would take his or her form and replace him or her.

I can't help but wonder if iPod means "I Pod" or "I am a Pod"? Think about it. There are MP3 players out there that are less expensive and have more features than an iPod but people keep buying "I Pod" to let others know that they are conforming.

And this whole "podcasting" thing. It's one gigantic mechanism for disseminating mind control and converting people into being "Pods".

    Resist I say RESIST!

  • What popular song in late 80's or early 90's had a Tarzan yell in it?

It's bugging me that I can't remember the name of the song or the group that performed it. I think they were a "one-hit wonder". The song was a kind of "montage", kind of wild and all over the place. I remember a "tarzan" yell in the song.

    Thanks!

  • Which will you buy? Blu-ray or HD-DVD?

HD-DVD players from Toshiba come out this month (March 15) but only 4 HD titles. Blu-ray will have about 20 titles available by May/June with players out around May 23.

Will you buy a player this year? Which one?

  • Do humans only have five senses, or do we have more?

We all know the basic five senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell). But do humans have more than five senses? Do we have six senses or more? Before answering "no, only five", close your eyes, turn off the TV or radio, and think about what else you sense.
