Most people do not want to be challenged or learn something new; they want validation of their own ideas.

some people just need to be told that they have made the right choices, etc. when people agree with them then they think they have a legitimate reason for doing whatever they are asking in pretense.

I agree, people do not like to ask questions, only rant their opinions. :)
I think because of what your first responder said, no one wants to open up to a new way of thinking.

I guess that they are looking for kindred spirits, but man, those questions burn my hide. Even if I come up with an excellent opposing argument I know that it will fall on deaf ears.

hmm, I do the opposite. I ask questions hoping people disagree with me. I don't like sheep nor do I want to be one.

it's part of our socialism.. it has a lot to do with insecurity, and how we crave validation from others, but are afraid of being opened wide for public scrutiny.
it's just like how ppl laugh when things aren't funny. 90% of the time when we laugh, we're not laughing because it's funny-- we're laughing because we're being social, and trying to engender feelings of comradarie with others.

Because they like to force their opinions on others. They are closed minded and jerk-stores. Thats all I can really say.
