You have given us waaaayyyyyyyyyy too little information to intelligently or accurately answer you. You haven't told us what your current diet is, and we don't know how much you weigh, and whether you spend anytime outdoors or not, and how rigorously you do your eliptical, which doesn't impress me as an exercise, or where you do your exercise, and whether it's airconditioned where you exercise. I would be tempted to say that your diet has to change if it's not a particularly healthy one, and you must remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so as you exercise and "trim down", your new muscle tone may look heavier on the scales than you want, so, tell us more and then maybe we could give you more intelligent answers. God Bless you.

Hello, I am happy to help you with your question. A Key Healthy Diet is essential as well as a regulated exercise program in loosing weight. You are doing exactly what you should be doing. As long as you do not over eat , You are doing great. Most people do not realize that the initial weight gain is from over eating. and eating of the wrong things. But you stated that you eat a very healthy diet and you do exercise, So Honey you are doing right. I would imagine you should be seeing results in no time at all. Keep up the good work. I am proud of you. I also have made a life style change, and am eating all healthy foods and working out at the gym 3 to 4 days a week. I am 52, A Mother of Three and A Grandmother of a 2 year old Boy.

If you were completely sedentary or mostly inactive before, then you will probably lose a little weight without changing your diet, but not as much as you could. Ultimately, it's the balance between calories in and calories expended -- if you burn more than you eat, you'll lose weight. If you were steady at some weight with little or no exercise and, say 2000 calories a day, then it means that, with every little thing you do throughout the day (including breathing and blinking your eyes) you burnt a total of 2000 calories, give or take (this implies that you actually absorb that much, which you don't really) If you were to start working out on your elliptical machine every day and burnt 300 calories every day, that's now burning more than you consume and you will begin to lose weight (one article I read a while ago equated 3500 calories to 1 pound of body weight, so just doing that would average about 2 pounds a month. Don't forget however, that as you exercise more, you'll also gain some muscle mass, so your weight loss will slow down at some point as you approach a new plateau. For really effective weight loss, however, you need to modify both diet and exercise habits, but don't do anything drastic -- aim for gradual change so that you increase your fitness level and reach a maintainable weight in a way that is healthy and sustainable over the rest of your lifetime.

You should be losing weight if you're doing what you say. .
If not, then increase it to 45 min a day. . (I'm not sure what an eliptical is, but I imagine it's some aerobic type thingy that you exercise on). .
You could also try to get out and walk or run for a few minutes every day (or even twice a week if it's running), and. . unless you're taking in TONS of calories, exercise should be sufficient to cause you to lose weight. .
also GET enough sleep (at least 8 hours) . . eat as SOON as you get up in the AM, and eat a few small meals during the day instead of two or three huge ones. .
Oh, and also. . don't eat in the last three hours before bed . .

I am amazed you didn't LOSE weight with a two year old!
Yes you will lose weight with exercise alone. Whether it is fast enough for you or in the right places remains to be seen. Usually you want to do more than one exercise to "lose 10 pounds" simply because you noticed a problem area other than the bathroom scales saying "uh-oh-10 pounds".. With your type exercise regimen,(slow is good) expect the weight to come off slowly, just as it was added. If you are a little pudgy in your midriff say, consider some simple sit ups added to the Eliptical go-rounds. Also If you have a good machine you will have multiple tension settings and elevation settings. Use these settings to gradually increase your workout, not maintaining the same elevation, tension settings.
About your diet....most people eat the correct foods, along with a lot of junk foods. The problem is the ratio of good v bad food in you diet. Try upping the fruits and fresh veggies and lowering the snack type junks. You still have the same diet, just in a more healthful exercising loving regimen.
Here is a good link for you to look at for some ideas on exercises:

Well, the "experts" say that you do have to change your diet and that doesn't mean go on a diet, that means your intake. What you eat and when you eat it is important. You have to eat right, you have to breath and you have to move. Move as in outside. As in walking...since you are already doing 30 mins, you can hit the ground walking....start off at 30 mins and build up to an hour, it won't take long and you'll be amazed at the weight you will lose...and of course you do other exercise also, like stretching, Pilates, yoga...but even if you can't, an hour walk will set all your energies in motion. In about 2 to 3 weeks, you will see a difference in the way your clothes fit...eat your big meal for breakfast, go lighter midday, and even lighter at night, and snack on fruits and veggies. Also the more organics you eat, the better, you eat less, they make you full because they are not loaded with chemicals...Happy Happy!

I eat all sorts of foods, and if I walk a fast pace for a kilo the pounds don't look so bad after about a week, so yes you will lose, but slowly which is the best way to lose weight and keep to this routine and believe me, I am 43 and weigh about 58 kilo's and as I said I eat sweets like it is going out fashion.
A lot of people that are on diet in our workplace, once a week they take a laxative, maybe you should do that as well, as well as eating two apples a day, that also helps with the burning of fat

A good place to go would be a gym that have trainers. Tell them you are interested in a membership. They will pull out the stops to tell you about how your metabolism effects your weight. How doing the same exercises over and over again will allow your body to acclimate to the exercises so it becomes less effective, Etc. Etc, Muscle also weighs more than fat, so sometimes there may be a weight increase before a weight decrease. But these guys have all the supporting documentation to help sell you into a gym membership. But the information is like taking a crash course in diet, metabolism, and muscle development and you get to ask questions. You don't have to buy a membership to hear the spill.

Everyone seems to be trained to concentrate on food. Of course you can loose weight by increasing your calories burned while keeping caloric intake constant. There are however two things to consider: First you have been gaining, so to loose you must either burn enough or reduce intake enough to not only turn this trend around, but also to loose weight.
Secondly you must consider the type of exercises. Are there enough reps for long enough to get you into the cardio zone (raise heart rate).
Another thing to consider is your motivation. Do you really care what the scale says, or do you just want to look and feel better. The exercises will accomplish this better than just starving yourself.

At our age you need to do both. I tried this in January, I started walking on my treadmill for 1 hour everyday for a month, didn't lose a pound. I changed my eating habits in March and now I'm running, I've lost 50 lbs.
I'm sure it's doable, but it was frustrating for me to be working like a was and not seeing a change. I had to give up red meat and starches, but it's worth it.
You use your machine for 30 minutes a day, how long have you been doing it and what are your results? If you are asking us, you are doing that well. Change you eating habits and watch the weight just fall off. What have you got to lose other than weight?
