Should Russia return the Kurile/Northern Territory Islands to Japan?
No, there aren't a lot of people there but there are rich fisheries and minerals. We returned the islands we captured to the Japanese, we returned the land we occupied from the Germans, why then won't the Russians return those islands?

I think it should not. Likewise U.S. should not return southern states to Mexico, Lithuania should not return Vilnius to Poland, Poland should not return Gdansk to Germans etc.
Of course it's just my personal opinion and I am not a diplomat nor a statesman of one of these two countries.

I agree. That's the risk Japan took. Also, there aren't a heck of a lot of people up there so self-determination principles don't really apply.
