What programs would you use to edit an .mpg file?

I have several, but am wondering if I should use one of those or if I should acquire yet another one.

Also, any way to strip off the audio into an .mp3 or other format I can click on to play via computer or cd?

Windows comes preinstalled with Windows Movie Maker which will both allow you to edit .mpg files and should allow you to strip the sound off to turn it into a sound file. However, your files might end up as .wmv and .wma (windows media video/audio) but they will still play on the desktop as you describe.

If you want to edfit an MP3 and make ringtones and such you can convert that Mp3 to a Wav file and then pick it away clean all you want too and then save what you want and convert it back to Mp3 if you wish or keep it a Wav file and upload it to your desire.

You can use Jiao systems VCD Cutter for cutting portions from mpg files. If you want to edit mpg movies, add content, then you can try Multiquence (www.goldwave.com).
