i want to make windows medio player my default player and forget how?

Try tools>options>file types and select all.

Go to Windows Media Player --> Options --> Formats Tab --> Select All

If you are using WinXP,

Left click on Start

Left click on Set Program Access and Default

Pick Custom and left click on the down arrows

Set the defaults you want then left click on OK and your done
