what does this mean? Computer is in danger! etc. with an exclamation mark in yellow?
This message has been popping up for about an hour now:
your computer is in danger... windows security center has detected spyware/adware infection. Click here to install latest protection tools.
But when I click on the message, nothing happens. THere is a red circle with white X on my tool bar. I have gone to Microsoft support, but won't get an answer right away. Any ideas?
Thank you everyone....I think I got rid of it but am running adaware for 3rd time and still downloading defender. Get this....it would shut my puter down every time adaware or the download for defender would get close to completing. So, on a hunch I went to my computer and there was something there called :Guest File. I sent these to recycle and deleted that. And hasn't popped up (fingers crossed) again. Again-thank you everyone- especially mrpurrfect.

DO NOT DO IT! That's exactly what happend to my computer a few weeks ago. It's a Spy Bot Virus. Don't do it. You need to scan your computer for the virus and try to take it out. A lot of times with this virus it will appear it's gone away but it can come back late on! Are you running Norton by any chance? Just asking cause Norton NEVER detected it and I've gotten rid of Norton. It sucks. Send another question if you want hellp to remove it. There are a ton of free programs that will take care of i
Source(s): Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG, Trend Mirco & Avast! Avast was the best! Oh..Zone alarm too. Run them all!!!!! - 1 decade ago
Instead of using microsoft get adaware se and spy bot search and destroy there free and can be found at download.com. After you installed that scan your computer and that warning should go away. If you're talking about not being able to access the waning bubble on your taskbar click on start>control panel>security center because if you would clicked the warning that is the place it would have took you.

Don't click that. It's spyware trying to get in. A minor virus oly, but it needs to be quarantined. It has been popping up on many computers. Fortunately, it hasn't bee very malicious. Just stop trying to open it. It isn't legit. If you have a virus remover, use it.
D like the other person said, get 1 Defender. I have that.

It's just a popup. Pay it no attention. If you click on it, which you have, it will only install more spyware and adware on your computer.
I suggest downloading Adaware and scanning your computer.
You can find it there.

Its adware! Run an adware reomoval tool! spybot or adaware, if your lucky it will remove it! NEVER click a popup and install its software!

I really hate to tell you this, but those pop-ups that tell you that you've got adware and to click on the box to get rid of it: It ACTUALLY PUTS *ON* ADWARE!!!
So now you've got adware, and maybe viruses, on your computer that you probably didn't have before, because you clicked on that horrible, bogus thing.
