Do I have to let just anyone use my restroom?

lol thts kinda funny cuz my dad used to own a restaurant, and ppl would do that too.. it gets really annoying especially when its not a busy day and you really want customers so when someone walks in and say "may i use your bathroom?" its like... uhh what if a customer needs to go?? lol but yeah.. you can refuse to let them go.. but im such a pushover, id let ppl go even if it wasnt my store.. and tell the store across the street not to send ppl over!

Nope. If your business has less than 10 employees you can deny the restroom to anyone. You can even stipulate that you have "No Customer Restrooms" also and then send them back to the carryout. The law in most states say that you must provide a public restroom if you serve food and drink at your place of business. In my company I clearly stipulate that there are no public restrooms, however if a customer asks, of course I will let them use it.

Actually, I think it's illegal for the restaurant not to have a public restroom. Where is this carryout place at by the way? I just want to avoid the place. I wouldn't want to eat there, if their employees do not keep themselves clean. Why doesn't the health department do something about it?

I would definitely post a sign for customers only.

No Law, in any state, allows the government to make it illegal to restrict usage of any space in a PRIVATE business. If you want to make it a non public restroom, then go for it.

Although, have you thought about it this way... The Carryout place is providing you with CUSTOMERS..... Make it work like that.

I would never patronize a place that would not let me use the restroom. And if I do have to run in for a potty , I usually will make some type of purchase as a thank you! But if, I went in a place as was told NO, I certainly would never even consider becoming a customer of that establishment.

The carryout place across the street has no right to send their customers to your place. You should talk to them about it.

If however they do send someone over, I don't think it's right to send them away without letting them use the bathroom...

Just think, what if you were that person... and you really needed to use the restroom... how mean of someone to send you away without letting you use it..

again, I'm not saying that they should continue sending their customers to you, but if they do - you should act nice to them...

That depends upon local ordinances. Some cities do require businesses to allow anyone from the street to use the restrooms. Other's leave it up to the business owner.

Personally I think that by opening your restrooms to the public you build goodwill and may gain more customers. Maybe a LOT more over time. Frankly when I see that sign on a business, I do not patronize them at all. But that's just me.

Put a lock on the door so they have to come get a key to use the bathroom, and if they arnt a customer just point to the sign if they get irrate tell them to take it across the street where they are a customer or your callin the cops, plain and simple

Depends on what state you live in. Just lock the bathroom doors and when real customers need the toilet then give them the key. Non customers just tell them to buy something or leave

You are a private business. There is no law stating that you have to let ANYONE - including your customers - use your restrooms.
