If I can invent a fruit-picker machine or a self-cleaning toilet, would that solve illegal immigrants problem?

You're right, to some degree, the concept of manual labor and employing people to do menial repetitive jobs is a hearkening back to an older pre-industrial way of doing business. Now, when you can process tons of material with a machine in minutes, it does seem kind of foolish to insist on doing things the Old Fashioned Way, but that's just how some people want it...unfortunately, the old economic model that went with it, working for 20 cents a day back when 20 cents still meant something, is now outmoded. Price-per-unit depends on low per-unit production costs. If you're trying to sell 8,000 widgets at a buck each, and it costs you 80 cents to make a widget, 5 cents to package each widget, and 8 cents to transport it/handle it, and you only sell 3,000 widgets, how much of a loss are you realizing per batch of 8,000 widgets? Be they widgets, be they strawberries, the principle is essentially the same. Look what's happened to GM and Ford. They literally can't AFFORD to put something new on the lot for under 10 grand because their overhead is so high, especially by the time you get done counting healthcare, retirement, investor dividends, and the rest of it.

Honda will eventually succumb to the same sickness, so will Toyota...got to keep costs low, and quality and production numbers high. People can do some assembly and production work for a while, but then they get tired. Let's see YOU pack strawberries for 8 hours straight...it's all pretty stupid, if we went back to having local greengrocers instead of shipping things 1/2way around the world, I think we'd be better off...

No but a contraceptive that can be grown inside the jalapeño peppers might help keep the illegal families to a manageable size, otherwise the welfare and health care costs will be out of control.

At first I was going to say no. Then I saw the part about the immigration limit already being reached and you have a good point there. It would definitely get the legal Mexicans to understand.

Besides those things already exist, if you did it would prove that illegals will only do the jobs Americans do.
