There is universal consensus among biblical scholars that Job was not a real person. The story of Job is an allegory about suffering, and why, sometimes, bad things happen to good people.

First get out of your sleep and then study the book of Job. Nothing written in the Bible is fiction. Don't doubt the Word of God.

I believe that he really did exist because his wife wanting him to curse God sounds exactly like what would happen in real life. And yes, I do believe that people can go through something that extreme and allow it to strengthen their love and trust for God.

There is the answer, Job. Why do we use that word to mean the exchange of our labor for money? Is it that we do things we hate to earn, and if so why are we cursed with his legacy? Whatever has God done to us that we are so burdened by one of these biblical fairy tales. Truly the masses have lost their way when we cannot think for ourselves, but depend on the rantings of soceity's outcasts from thousands of years ago. Their bones are dust, and we still believe that crap, amazing!!

If the book made you stop and think enough, then does it matter if he was real or not? Not all the books in the Bible are meant to be first-hand eyewitness accounts. If it made you pause and think about your own life, then it served God's purpose of enlightening.

I say real as in the fact that many have suffered these types of loss and continued to love and serve. I believe many have and still more will.
