What is the meaning behind Snow Patrol's song 'Chasing Cars' ?

i think its a lovey-dovey song. i think hes tryin to say how much he feels for someone. cant find the words to describe but he knows that:

"Those three words

Are said too much

They're not enough"

those 3 words being I LOVE YOU. he just wants to say that lying next to the one he loves is his happy place. chasing cars is like watching clouds (daydreaming)

I don't know the song myself. But the meaning is derived from the activity of some dogs. The writer seems to be wasting his time. See if the rest of the song fits in with that theme.
