Does anyone else have this problem?

My dog, no matter how short her nails are, chews on her nails constantly. Chrunch, chrunch, chrunch, chomp, chomp, chomp. It drives me nuts. Does anyone else have a dog that does this?

Update:

ok she is an 8 year old dalmation/lab/doberman mix, (ugh what were they thinking?) She is very healthy, up to date on all of her shots, she has tons of toys and chew toys, she does have allergies, but she does this even when she is not having problems with her allergies.

Yes My Boston Terrier does this constantly, The vet said it is a nervous disorder, like people biting their nails

I do not have a dog that does the constant biting of his nails anymore...but the people's response to you about it being a "nervous" condition is correct.... you may want to consult your vet for proper treatment as each dog (like each human!) is slightly different, and you will want to eliminate any physical reasons for this behavior...good luck...(ps...maybe try a chew stick as a substitute for his nails!!!!)

No, I still need to get my dog's nails trimmed at the vet. I did once have a rabbit that bit his own nails though. He first chewed on one of mine, and I guess he liked it so much he did his own. I never needed to get him in for a nail trim after that.

Yes, I have a rat terrier that does this, Have no clue why, I took her to the vet and they gave her an allergy shot. Said it could have been her nerves also. She still does it. :(

Its from boredom and nervousness, even caused by malnutrition.

Get a spray for her nails that tastes yucky, and tell her not to do it. Make sure she's eating well and has pleanty of toys.

Yes. My dog does this... even when we just clipped his nails. I have tried to see if it was behavioral thing... but I cannot find any info on it.

She could just do it, because she is bored or they might itch. She may also have allergies that causes them to itch I would call your vet and ask if you should bring her in. There may be medication to help.

Is your dog from planet, Venus? If not, consult a really competent vet.

sounds like your dog is having some nervous issues. my moms cat did that and they put her on a drug. i dont what it was called but it works. talk to your vet.

No, I don't. Maybe you can get that nail polish which tastes really bad and see if that works... Good luck.
