Can people not answer questions in the spirit they're intended (details)?

I've seen people asking questions which were obviously a light-hearted joke and they got answers like 'you deserve to die for wasting my time'.

But on the other hand I've seen people with serious questions getting stupid answers like 'thanks for the 2 points' or worse. I've even seen people asking 'should I kill myself' and people have said 'yeah, go ahead'.

I think there's room for both having fun and to help people here, if you want to have fun then you can but not at someone elses expense, also serious answers deserve a serious response.

I don't mind the smartass answers, at least not when they're clever, and I admit that the "thx 4 da 2 pts" stuff gets under my skin, but they're not exactly harmful. They take up space, but someone usually ends up answering the question properly in there somewhere.

The biggest problem I've seen here is just pure, undiluted malice. If someone has an important question or problem, they shouldn't be punished for asking it. The level of cruelty out of so many people here simply amazes me.

Occasionally I am flippant or exasperated. But I try my best to be helpful when called for. If I'm not capable of helping I usually keep quiet.

But it's an open site with only a few rules. The freedom is worth the occasional idiot. You can vote thumbs down on an answer (if you are Level 2 or above) and even get it blocked from your view!

You're right, but it shouldn't be a suprise. Really. There are a lot of people who just don't care, sometimes they're just in a hurry to rack up points. Sometimes they're just cruel. But that's the way it goes!

If it bothers you so much (and I'm not saying that you're wrong) then maybe you shouldn't visit the site.
