How long does it take for a rat to decompose?
There's one dead under the floorboards and it stinks really rancid and I dont want to rip up the floorboards? We've used air freshener and Nil odour and all sorts but that smell of death is truly horrible.. please help?

The odor should dissipate within a month, depending on dryness heat, moisture, etc.
Mine never smell,,, in my freezer,,, smiles.

BTW to anyone having this problem,,, on a serious note,,, DO NOT USE POISONS!!! The critters aren't gonna hang around in view anyway, and will die, but not at our convenience.

I think we had a dead rat somewhere in the house-we could not find the exact source but we had an AWFUL smell for weeks. probably 3 to 4 weeks. just wait it out..thank goodness it does go away.

quite awhile, depending on the contions. If it's outside, exposed to rain, and it's warm, it'll be done in 2 weeks. If it's cold it takes longer. If it's dry it takes longer.
