how to write a rap song?

You people haven't heard people like Tupac or Nas rap have you?

I don't write raps, but I do listen to rap so I'll tell you what I know as a listener.

Most raps are structured like this

-Intro (Sometimes rappers'll talk for a few bars before they start rapping)

-Hook (Chorus)

-Verse

-Hook

-Verse

-Hook

-End

That was just a rough sketch. Sometimes the verse can start off the song instead of the hook. Most rap verses are 16 bars long. If you look up the lyrics to a typical rap song, 1 bar will be 1 line of lyrics. The hook should be the catchiest part of the song.

Make sentences that rhyme (it doesn't matter if the sentences are grammatically correct, or if the words are really words). Talk about how tough you are, or how bad the police are, or how hard life is where you live. Steal music from a rock song that can be used as background. Turn your hat slightly, wear baggy clothing and move your hands in front of you alot when you rap ... you're guaranteed a hit!

Your bad grammar is a great start. Now just rip off someone's music, call it a sample. It helps if you don't have anything interesting or original to say, no one in rap does.

You'll need a really good rhyming dictionary, and a metronome to help you get and keep the beat. Good luck. :-)

First, steal someone elses music and make it repeat over and over... then write racist words to it about drugs, gangster life or graphic sex.

Know a lot of short, quippy words that rhyme..
