Try Bearshare...you may get some pop ups which you can block, but I've been using it for months, no viruses, not bad. There is one you do not have to drop a credit card or anything...free Bearshare. Happy hunting!

Basically, those places you mentioned in your question are about the best you're gonna do...because music isn't supposed to be free. You don't get free CD's from any store, no real free music online.
