Can you defintely not get pregnant if you're not ovulating or are you just less likely to?

Update:

You know, I would go to my gyno, but you see it's Sunday evening and she doesn't keep office hours tonight and also hasn't given me her home and cell phone numbers. Thanks for wasting my time, take your 2 points, and shut the **** up. SHeesh.

Everyone else: thanks for your answers :)

You probably wouldn't but then again, can you always be absolutely certain that you're not ovulating? best thing to do is use birth control, which is the most sure-fire way to go. If your religion goes against birth control other than the rythm method, it does so because it wants you to become pregnant to make more people of the same religion telling you how not to get pregnant. In an age of std's, do you really want to take chances? and if you are with someone you know has no std's, do you still want to take other kinds of chances?

Ovulation occurs generally 2 weeks prior to your period beginning. Your period would have to be pretty consistant if you wanted to avoid getting pregnant that way and remember the egg lives for about a day. A man's sperm can live inside a woman's body for about six days. Because the sperm can "wait" for an egg for six days, fertilization of a woman's egg is more likely from intercourse before or during ovulation than from intercourse following ovulation. Some women learn how to chart their menstrual cycles to be able to predict ovulation in order to avoid pregnancy.

no, you can't get pregnant if you are not ovulating. Example: being on the pill, women past menopause, or pregnant women.

The thing is... how do you know that you are not ovulating???
