I am planning a client/employee appreciation cook-out for October. Would like some fun ideas?

Let me give you some details. My business consists of rental properties to wholesalers. A 140 properties with perhaps 300 attending this event/cook-out. I want to achknowlege my appreciation to them by providing an afternoon of fun and good food. Steaks on the grill, baked potato, the works on the meal...

I want a sorta fall festival type atmoshpere. It will be casual. On a Sunday afternoon between 4 and 6 is the time frame, but may go longer. October weather is mild and still fairly warm here.

I was thinking a "dunk tank" would be fun? With ME (aka Boss) in the tank? But now I am at a loss of what else to do! I want this to be all about THEM having fun! The age group will vary from teen to elderly so I need appropreiate activities. Expense is not a problem for these great people. I don't need party planners or web sites. I would prefer good ideas from working minds.

10 points for your best idea!

Update:

The mention of "cook-out, steaks on the grill and mild October weather" should indicate this is an out-door event!

I am getting some great ideas from a couple of you though. The ring toss was good. Please explain "bean bag game".

There will be music, the food has been determined. I also mentioned that the people will be from teen to elderly, (ages 16 to 70) being the target group so I need a variety of games that can be done as a group. I don't want to separate age groups. My focus is to instill their continual team work.

thanks for the help...............

Update 2:

K.I.S.S. ....keep it simple stupid?

This is not a way to suggest party plans for a major company, much less get 10 points! Alcohol at a company function? Not about to happen!

    I'm a working guy.

Bean bag game is fun. There's the standard volleyball, frizbee stuff, Fortune teller/palm reader. Um there's climbing walls, not good for the elderly.

I like that pedestal joust thing. Maybe an obstacle course?

Do you have a location? Depending on your region maybe there are paddle boats, miniature golf etc.

Or ask your employees for ideas, select some you feel are appropriate and have them vote on them?

p.s. Hiring anyone? Sounds like you treat your people well.

It really depends on your location, are you outside? is there lots of space?

I am a professional event producer and if you were my client, I would recommend really playing into the autumn theme that having your event in October lends itself to. Have horse drawn hay rides, pumpkin carving, apple cider making, even colourful leaf crafts for the younger guests. Temporary tattoos and caricatures are always really fun as well. Get some hay bales and picnic tables for the seating to help add to the theme. Hire a guitar player to sit around a campfire (doesn't have to be real fire) and lead a sing along and generally entertain people. If it's going to be within a couple of weeks of Halloween, then send each of your guests home with a pumpkin as a small gift. Be sure to have music at your event, even if it's only a dj and make sure that there is a mic available so that you can welcome everyone and then thank everyone at the end of the event.

Be careful about your dunk tank idea - you are the hostess of this event and should be 'shmoozing' with all of your guests and making sure things are going well, not being stuck in a giant bucket of water. Dunking booths are really only fun when employees get to dunk mean bosses or students get to dunk teachers - grown ups really don't get more than 5 minutes of fun from them, your money can probably be better spent.

But most of all, relax and enjoy your own event - visiting with your guests is what they will really remember and appreciate.

Just k.i.s.s and you will be fine (KEEP. IT. SIMPLE. STUPID). As long as you have a lot of meat like chicken, steak, hot dogs, and hamburgers, and lots of beer and hard drinks then you should be fine. Have a drawing for some prizes. I think a dunk tank would be just fine.Or a pinata would be cool as well as some good music. Good luck with your party....

Have an easter egg hunt! It would be so incredibly stupid to do that in October, and your clients would think you had lost it. However, once they opened there "eggs" (plastic) they would find pieces to a jigsaw puzzle. Once the pieces to the puzzle are assembled--you will need a place for this to be done--it will be picture of George Bush. Then a band will begin to play and......dadaadadadadadaaaa.....it's George Bush as the guest!!!!!
