The answer is "the orifices of a new born".

This is a biblical riddle from the story of Solomon and Sheba...

"What is it? An enclosure with ten doors; when one is open, nine are shut, and when nine are open, one is shut," Sheba asked Solomon. Solomon answered, "The enclosure is the womb, and the ten doors are the ten orifices of man, namely his eyes, his ears, his nostrils, his mouth, the apertures for discharge of excreta and urine, and the navel. When the child is still in its mother's womb, the navel is open, but all the other apertures are shut, but when the child issues from the womb the navel is closed and the other orifices are open."

My guess is... "A door". Notice that it never says 9 WHAT are opening and closing, but when the riddle referrs to 1, it always uses the specifier "1 Door". The door is the only object directly capable of being referred to with the pronoun "it

Alternately, you could also read it as what is "It", in which the answer would be "A pronoun".

it could be the door has 9 small doors on it and when you closes it, the wind will open the 9 doors and when you try to close the 9 doors, the door closes. What the hell? I don't know anyway....

but thats just an answer I read somewhere else so I cant verify that.

I would give the person who wrote it credit but it is in voting, so it just says answerer 9

  • My dear, that's an ancient phrase. It is said at the time when a person is in distress so he is comforted by saying that if God closes one door, he opens 9 other doors. And if you're lucky enough to have 9 doors opened already and they close eventually, you still have one door open.

This phrase refers to strong belief in God, that one should never lose. And it's a fact that God does open 9 doors when he closes one. You just got to SEE that. He is GREAT!!
