As with any news story the media will play up what sells. You would think the hurricane hit just New Orleans and then stopped. News reporting will glamorize certain disasters by reporting it over and over. Leaving out the truth in most instances.

No, your not wrong. New Orleans wasn't the only place that was affected by Katrina, and most news agencies mention Mississipi as an afterthought. BUT, the reason that N.O. gets all the attention is because they were deliberately flooded. Watch the Spike Lee documentary on HBO, it's repeating August 29th. It's a 4 parter (4 hurs) regarding the hurricane and the devastation. It details how many residents that lived by the levees heard loud booms. Thinking 'maybe' they were transformers blowing up but then remembering there wasn't any electricity for the transformers. They believe that the levees were blown up to spare the 'money' part of the city, the French Quarter. The reason that N.O. also gets all the attention is because the way the govt. left the residents to fend for themselves for days, even after there were cries and pleas from the Governor and the Mayor. They were shipped to the stadium and left, like dogs, until Mr. President decided to send help and ship them out of there.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Many places were devastated by Katrina, besides New Orleans. Where on earth did you get the idea that it wasn't the hurricane that did the damage? The flood waters broke through the levees - what have barges got to do with it? Where did you get your information - or lack of it? Many places still haven't been built back up - check with your local president who was too busy planning wars to do anything to help the people.

You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VERY right! We were looked over in Mississippi, because we're not living on welfare in the projects staying at home during the MASSIVE hurricane! I think that was played up (racially) by Kayne "Bush hates black people" West and Jesse "jackass" Jackson! Those 2 opened their ignorant faces to let the world know how STUPID they truly are, causing a lot of uproar racially! They gave no MONEY nor any of their time to help these poor "black" people of New Orleans. They truly are pathetic (West and Jackson) people!

Anyways, the media only showed the coast guard jumping out of helicopters to get people off their roofs....because in New Orleans they had roofs to sit on!! People here were hanging in trees and floating around hanging on to ANYTHING because their homes were WASHED away not FLOODED! Thank you for recognizing this! I live in Long Beach, MS....but basically the entire gulf coast of MS runs together! :) That's why it's not usually referred to by cities, just the "gulf coast of MS" and because MANY cities were leveled, not just the projects of one city....but Lousiana had a lot of damage too, OUTSIDE of New Orleans. The story is in the minorities because the hurricane came to kill black people....or so stupid people have said....people have also said it came to MS to get rid of the casinos and because of gay people.....haha, where people get these ideas, I'll never know!!!

But honestly, if you were there this weekend, then you missed A LOT of debris that's been gone for a while; honestly, they are really doing a fabulous job of rebuilding. I've seen new apartment buildings go up and condos go up. Before the storm, you'd see cranes on the beach for miles putting up new buildings, and they're back. It truly is a beautiful sight indeed! I got really excited on seeing the street lights and stop lights get put back up; yeah it's silly, but it was a little bit of normalcy. I used to complain about the traffic on hwy 90, but now I welcome it because people are here and moving again!!!

We also had a lot of help from volunteerers ALLLLLLLLLL over the US! I thank God for those people! WONDERFUL AND GREAT PEOPLE!

But I think they like the media to focus on where the most devastation is located, but who decides that fact ?

The media is going to go where it makes news, unfortunately.
